pot 是什么意思呢？
字典上说：
1）A pot is a deep round container used for cooking things in.
pot，是一种圆圆的，较深的容器，通常用来煮东西
2）A pot is a container made of glass, clay or plastic, used for storing food in.
pot，是由玻璃，陶土，或者是塑料制成的，通常用来储存食物
比如说：
a coffee pot 咖啡壶
a pepper pot 胡椒瓶
a teapot 茶壶
这些都是 pot 很常见的意思，
那我们标题里的 pot 是什么意思呢？

妈妈手上拿着的那个容器，就是 pot
I think the pot here is a deep round container used for cooking things in.

Does it mean that the pot is very hot?
emm... Maybe.
It's very hot because Mum just cooked some delicious food in it.
Look at Mum's gloves for cooking.
It is called Oven Mitt 隔热手套.

The pot must be hot.
What's in the pot?
这个锅里到底有什么呢？
Look at Button the dog！
The dog's name is Button.
He puts his tongue out.

这个 hot pot 到底是什么意思呢？
热锅？
其实，hot pot 还有个专门的意思，就是娜塔莉最爱吃的 “火锅”，
但要注意的是，“Hot Pot”，这两个词是分开的哦。
如果在国外吃饭时，菜单上写着 “Hotpot”，
中间没有空格的话，
那么服务员端上来的，绝对不是你认为的火锅，
而是一份连锅的土豆洋葱炖肉，
和我们平常吃的大杂烩差不多，
大致呢，是长图片上的这个样子👇
如果怕搞错，你可以说 chaffy dish 火锅。
I had chaffy dish for supper last night.
我昨天晚上吃了火锅。
飘雪的冬天吃 chaffy dish，
真是 Yummy！Yummy！
好，再次回到绘本，

Oh，Lin is the girl in pink.
小狗 Button 的前面，
那个穿粉色衣服的女孩就是 Lin。
She is holding a balloon.

妈妈说：晚饭吃饺子哦。
Wow，I love dumplings.
Do you love dumplings？
什么是 Dumpling 呢？
Dumpling 饺子，馄饨，汤圆，这些在国外都称作 Dumpling。
在老外眼里，只要是 “面皮包着馅儿” 的，都叫 Dumpling。
水饺：boiled dumplings
蒸饺：steamed dumplings
不过呢，因为《牛津树》，是比较老的绘本，现在很多地方，已经直接称【饺子】为【jiaozi】，而不在用 dumplings 了。
很多中国的小点心都是这样。
比如说：
粽子，在老的英文教材上写着 rice dumpling，但是新教材上直接写 zongzi。
汤圆，之前都会称它为 sweet dumpling，而现在更多的称它为 Tang-yuan。
可能是外国人也领教了中国美食文化的博大精深，远远不是 dumpling 能涵盖的，哈哈。
好了，饺子 dumplings / 或者 jiaozi
The forigners are wondering whether Chinese people eat Jiaozi during every festival.
老外发出灵魂拷问，中国人过节都要吃饺子吗？
That's a good question.
So guess，What's in the pot?
I think they were Dumplings（jiaozi）.
Ok，回到绘本
Mum came out of the kitchen with the hot pot.
"Dumplings for dinner," said Mum.
妈妈说：晚饭吃水饺哦！
正在这个时候，
oops!
Lin fell and hit her chin.
Lin 摔倒了，撞到了她的下巴。

说到 chin，让我想到一句很经典的台词，
也是个比较有意思的说法，
你知道：
by the hair of my chiny chin chin
这句话什么意思吗？
故事，三只小猪《Three little pigs》里面，
狼来敲门时的对话，
它出现了3次。
狼和小猪的对话是：
狼说：Little pig, little pig, let me come in.
我能进来吗？
小猪回答：No, no, by the hair of my chiny chin chin.
by the hair of my chiny chin chin
That means I don't have any hair on my chin.
字面来看，意思是：我的下巴没有毛发。
这是比较诙谐的说法啦。

意思是：不，那是不可能的事。（我不会开门的。）

这个很烫的、又很湿的锅子，把桌子弄出一个印子。
Yes, the dark ring.
mark 就是“记号、印记”
我们平时说的记号笔，就是 marker 马克笔/记号笔
Why does the pot make a mark on Lin's desk?
为什么会在桌子上弄出这样的印子呢？
Because it is hot and the bottom is wet.
It damages the wooden desk.

"Look at my dest!" said Lin.
"Will it rub off?" said Kipper.
rub off 就是"擦掉"的意思
Biff、Chip 刚和陈爷爷一起从公园回来。
Lin 说：看我的桌子。
Kipper 问：擦的掉吗？
这里要解释的一个地方就是【had been to】。
【had been to】
refer to a place which someone had visited at some time.
【had been to】指的是某人在某个时刻去过某地。
It indicate that the person had returned.
而且它经常是指那个人已经回来了，或者已经不在那儿了。
我们一起来理解一下这个用法，
后面的绘本里，其实用的还蛮多的呢。
Biff and Chip had been to the park with Grandpa Chen.
Biff、Chip 和陈爷爷【去过公园】
但是呢，现在【已经】从公园【回来了】。

flat 就是“一套房间”

在中国，或者说在上海很多见，
和爷爷奶奶，或者外公外婆，一锅粥的距离。
很中国哦！
放在国外，很有可能是住在2个州呢~

"Lin cannot see it yet," said Chip.
Chip 说：Lin 还不能看哦。
